Graduation is not the end of learning. School is not the only education system.

And I’m not just saying this because I hated college (seriously, every part of it except for the free time).

I’m saying this because I’ve experienced more learning after my formal education than when I was in college.

Thanks to the internet, you can literally learn anything you want to.

YouTube. Google. Written content. It’s all education.

So here’s why it’s good to always be learning, no matter what stage of life you’re in…

Why It’s Good To Find New Things To Learn

The great B.B. King once said, “The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.”

Mr. King got it. Knowledge can take you places. And no one can take it from you.

The things you learn stick with you. Then you can incorporate them into your craft.

Learning can make you a better musician. A more creative producer. A more insightful songwriter.

Find new things to learn and no one can take that away from you.

What Mentality Can Help You Learn?

Curiosity is key to learning. Questions are the driving force behind betterment. So wonder. Ask things.

Even if you have to set a reminder in your phone that says, “Learn something new today.”

If you’re always looking for the next thing that can teach you, you’ll only improve. You’ll slowly close the gap between your current self and what you actually expect of yourself.

Keep your eyes open. Google things.

Want to know how to mix? Go to YouTube.

Want to understand how music theory works? Read an article about it.

Heck, even I have an online course about how to succeed as a part-time musician.

The options are endless.

If you hear someone say, “Yeah, I wish I knew how to do THAT,” they’re probably just not a very driven person. Because if they wanted to learn how to do THAT, they could look it up and practice it.

Some Skills To Learn As A Musician

In my experience, here are some skills (on top of songwriting/producing) that will really benefit you as an indie musician:

So don’t ever think you can never learn something new. Life is all about getting better at stuff.

If you do music on the side and you’re looking for tips, tricks, and things you can do today to succeed, feel free to check out my online course The Successful Part-Time Musician.
